Numerous companies have host applications which were developed many years ago using Cobol and/or PL/1. These systems are now technologically obsolete because necessary adaptations or extensions have become impossible due to a lack of resources. However, systems that have already been implemented with newer technologies may also be equally outdated, so software migration may be the most effective solution here as well.
In order to safe the existing know-how in the systems, Comparus offers a transformation of their customers’ existing software to a modern cloud-based technology. This includes source code transformations for applications in Java, the formation of fail-safe microservices and the construction of OpenStack and open source systems such as Kubernetes. The orchestration system Kubernetes, the monitoring tool Prometheus and other open source projects are being used here.
Due to changing customer needs and as a result of technological innovations, proprietary IT systems can at some point no longer meet the expectations placed on them and need to be replaced by new IT infrastructures. IT is a reflection of existing business processes. Therefore, the successful introduction of a new IT system is a business-critical project. It is mandatory to ensure that historical data stocks are correctly transferred to the new system so that their use is still possible.

MIGRATION REPOSITORY
We have used the experience gained from various migration projects to design the Migration Repository (MIR) product. MIR enables developers and software analysts to view and analyze the PL/1, Cobol and CICS code parallel with the code translated e.g. into Java. This makes the migration process much more efficient. Compared to other tools, MIR can be used for different input and output data and different programming languages and technologies.
